The Beadlady Art Studio: Committed to giving you the best craft education in the country.

The Beadlady Art Studio:  Committed to giving you the best craft education in the country.

On the second floor of a little bead shop in Cubao is a haven for artists and crafters.  Our goal is to offer the best craft workshops with the highest quality of instruction.  Here at The Beadlady, we know what we’re talking about.

This summer, we invite you to take one of our polymer clay classes.

How are our workshops different from others?

Our workshops are designed with your best interests in mind.  The techniques we teach are developed through years of experience, and not simply lifted off books and the internet.  It takes months (sometimes even years!) of preparation before a workshop is offered.  We make sure that the lesson plan is the most practical, logical, and comprehensive approach, to ensure that students come out of the class equipped with the best possible skills and knowledge.   We only teach a maximum of five students at a time - the small class size ensures personalized instruction.

The Studio

The studio is spacious, brightly-lit, and fully equipped with an electric oven, manual and electric pasta machines, and ample working areas.  On one corner is a mini library featuring a collection of different craft books and magazines available for studio use.  Starting this June, the studio will be available for rent for your own workshops or meetings.

Workshop fees

Some of our workshops are, admittedly, a bit expensive.  Rest assured that you get what you pay for.  We do not scrimp on materials and service.   Each student gets their own set of materials.  Snacks and drinks from our café are also included in the fee.

The Venue

The studio is located in Cubao Expo, on the 2nd Floor of The Beadlady Craft Café.  The venue is accessible to public transportation.  Parking spaces are available.

The Classes

We make sure that our workshops are not simply classes, but rich experiences you will treasure for years to come. The students we have taught have come from different parts of the country (and one even from abroad), and all have walked away satisfied with the experience.

For our class schedules, please click here.  To register for a class, please email angelisartbeads@gmail.com

Turista Magazine feature

We are so honored to be featured in a travel magazine!

Turista Magazine is published by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, in cooperation with the Manila International Airport Authority, and distributed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The article was published two months ago, but we just found out about it this week because an artist from Finland attended one of our workshops after reading the magazine. :)

Thank you to Ms. Nisha Alicer, the writer, and Ms. Pia Puno, the photographer, for this wonderful opportunity. :)

I am SUPER DUPER BUSY

Sorry, I won't be able to reply to your inquiries for a while.  I haven't had the time to answer emails, pm's, and texts the entire week.

I am super busy!  That's an understatement.  I am soooo busy I don't even have time to comb my hair.  I shouldn't even be on multiply right now, but I need to post this quick note just to let everyone know I am not ignoring your inquiries.

I am just concentrating on my tasks this week.

I am teaching two workshops this weekend, so I am preparing everything we'll need in class, and practicing again and again even if I know everything by heart (I'm teaching an advanced class, so it's double the preparation!).

I am making lots of cupcakes again for another order, so my entire day is spent kneading and rolling clay.

Plus I am babysitting two naughty puppies.  Crazy!

So please just leave a message and I'll get back to you when I can.

Raw brass filigree now on display

The brass filigree settings/wrap are now on display at The Beadlady Craft Cafe in Cubao Expo.  Only a few dozen left per design so make sure you drop by and grab a pack, or fill out the order form to purchase online.

With brass filigree, the only limit is your imagination.  Wrap them around beads, stack them together, bend them to make rings, antique them, string beads and crystals to the holes - there are sooooo many possibilities!

Price:

Retail - P25 per piece
Wholesale - P180 per dozen (same design)

Sunday, March 28, 2010

Please

I'd like to apologize if I don't reply to your email or multiply pm.  I'm really suuuuuper busy, so I only really choose what to reply to.  (I'm referring to the type of question.)

This means that if the answer to your question is already posted, I won't reply anymore.  I'm really sorry, I'm not being a snob, I'm just being practical - please understand.  I manage a craft store, I teach workshops (and this means days of preparation before the scheduled date), I make Pretty Little Things, I maintain a craft blog, and I sell craft materials online.  You can only imagine how many questions I get!

Please, please read first before asking.  Most of the time, the information is already posted.  Like prices, availability, how long it's gonna take, etc.

If you have questions about polymer clay, everything's already in my blog Confessions of a Chronic Crafter, all you have to do is click and read.  There's a Polymer Clay 101 link there.

And when a workshop date is already fully booked and you haven't sent the reservation fee yet, it means you're not included in the class list.

Please read first before asking.  I know I'm not the only multiply seller with this problem.

Please don't ask How much? when the prices are already posted.

Please don't ask How can I order? when there's a "How to Order" entry already written.

Please, for everyone's sake, read first before posting a question.

Thank you so much for reading this!

The rose bib

Perfect for spring!

Twelve roses adorn this polymer clay bib. There are 81 petals, each painstakingly formed by hand.

I wanted each rose to look lifelike, with no visible fingerprints.

It took me 18 hours to make! You can only imagine how many squished and deformed roses never made it into the oven. Because of fatigue, I could no longer feel my fingers during the last few hours of the project. My fingers remained swollen the day after. It's worth it though.

This will look cute worn with a plain tube top or a summer dress.

Price: Php 1,500

Our craft store is now online

Welcome to The Beadlady Craft Cafe online

Our goal is to become your favorite place to shop for beads and craft materials!

That site has been up for quite a while now, but it served as a gallery of what the brick-and-mortar store had to offer.  But now, we are finally ready to take on orders online!

We are starting with polymer clay first, as it is terribly complicated to post all the available beads and charms all in one go.  We will gradually add all the other items (beads, charms, chains, etc.) over the coming months.

So why shop with us when there are tons of other online stores around?  Here are but a few reasons:

1.  Our online prices for polymer clay are cheap!  :)
2.  We will be your polymer clay heaven when April comes!  We will have exciting new brands available by then.  One polymer clay brand, and a few new materials for your art!
3.  When we finally upload all the other craft items, we will become a one-stop-shop for your crafting needs.  No need to look for other stores.
4.  And yes, wholesale will be available by April. :)

Pretty Little Things on Martha Stewart Weddings - Philippines

I can finally spill! I've been keeping quiet about this for 6 months!

Please buy a copy of Martha Stewart Weddings - Philippines March-August 2010 issue. My yummy cart and Pretty Little Things line are in the Vintage Advantage story, pages 100 to 106. Yay!

How it happened:

The ladies from Martha Stewart Weddings happened to pass by my new shop in Cubao Expo in August of last year, and saw my cart and the tiny little jars I use to display my charms. They thought it would be perfect for a story they were doing, so one sunny August day, my cart, my assistant, and I trooped to the Summit studio for a shoot.

It was fun seeing the Yummy Cart being gussied up. Hehe. And it's not everyday you get a sneak peek into the world of MSW - I enjoyed every minute of the shoot!

I am super happy.

I would like to thank the wonderful ladies behind MSW, for giving me this opportunity. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

The Beadlady at the Rockwell Urban Bazaar

We are bringing the bead bar to Rockwell!

Please come visit us at the Rockwell Urban Bazaar on March 12 - 14!

We are sharing a booth with Baubles Bangles n Beads. :)

Our booth is outside so no need to pay for entrance. :)

Swamped with pretty little things

Hello everyone!

I'd like to inform you that I'll be offline this weekend as I prepare my stocks for the upcoming Rockwell Urban Bazaar, and finish the big order due to be sent out next week.

Also, I have received your requests for Pretty Little Things, and I will get back to you as soon as I work out the schedule. :)

After I opened a few days ago, orders have poured in.  (I am thankful for all the blessings!)

And because of this, I am a bit swamped right now.  I am sorry to those who I had to turn down. I wish I could clone myself so I can accept every order that comes in.  But since I make everything by hand, I can only accept a few at a time.  It pains me to turn down requests, especially the really cute ones, but a girl can only do so much.  I would like everything to be well-made and of high quality, so I do not rush the production process.

So in the future, please book early.  Right now, I am booked till the first week of April (and a few other weeks in the coming months).  So the next earliest delivery available is April 20.

Thanks for reading this!

The Beadlady interview Nov. '09

Have you been to our shop in Cubao Expo? If you haven't yet, here's a sneak peek! This is Part 1 of the Nov. '09 interview.

This is probably the most comprehensive interview I've given, and I am deeply grateful to the staff of the show Negosyo Atbp. for giving me the opportunity.

Because the show is in Filipino, I was asked to answer in Filipino. Mahirap pala yun when you're talking about polymer clay. There are words with no tagalog equivalent. lol.

Thank you to Achie Joyce of BBB for the referral, and for recording this video!

Eco-friendly Handmade Silver Jewelry

I think I'm about ready to start taking orders for my silver jewelry line.

Guilt-free, 99.9% silver jewelry.

The silver that I use is 100% recycled.  It is reclaimed from film and circuit boards, then ground to a fine powder. The powder is then mixed with water and organic binders to form Art Clay Silver.  When fired in a kiln or with a torch, the water and organic binders burn away leaving 99.9% fine silver.

My first offering is the Sunset Cloud necklace, oxidized to create a light patina.  It comes with a 16-inch sterling silver chain, also oxidized.

Real Living Jan/Feb 2010

A wonderful feature - and a complete surprise! I bought the magazine just because I always buy RL. Imagine my surprise when I saw my stuff on a couple of pages! A few months back, I did get a text that they were using a few of my cupcakes for a shoot, but I didn't know what the shoot was for, so it completely slipped my mind. The cafe mention is a complete surprise altogether. Thank you Real Living!

Can't wait for March

I woke up this morning and felt intense excitement.  First half of Feb's gone, and now I can barely contain the butterflies in my stomach.  I have four big reasons:

1.  My dad's flying home! Yay!  (I might take a little break - a short vacay)
2.  I am waiting for a big magazine to hit the newsstands.  I wonder when the new issue will be released.  Crossing my fingers and toes.  I've been waiting for almost 6 months!
3.  My new stocks will finally arrive!  Super duper excited.
4.  This is the tricky part: I am launching a new brand!

Wow, just seeing everything all typed up like that makes me want to hurl.  Kabado. Excited. Takot.  At the rate my heart's going, I might not make it till March!

So there. Just sharing because it's the only way I can keep my sanity.

P.S.

And Alice in Wonderland!  I almost forgot!  Showing March 5 - but not sure if it will be screened on the same date here.  I am definitely excited for this!  Been waiting for months!

I finally got my pieces back! These were the projects I submitted for certification. We were required to create originally designed pieces - meaning something you didn't copy off a book or someone else's work. I planned to create yet another cupcake-themed collection, an easy way out. But in the end I challenged myself to come up with something different. We were required to use syringe type art clay for one of the projects. I'm not particularly fond of the Secret Garden brooch, but my first attempt - a key - broke many times while I was refining the edges before firing. I did not have enough silver left to create another key, so I had to make do with the little silver I had. I like how the lettering turned out though - it's really tiny! The Onyx pendant is one of my favorite pieces. We were required to set a natural stone, and I chose Onyx for its understated elegance. The last piece is a cupcake solitaire ring, blogged about here: http://beadlady.multiply.com/journal/item/145/The_cupcake_solitaire

Barrel beads

I made interesting little beads in a shape I don't usually make. These started out as tubes/snakes but I found them boring so I tweaked the design and made them a little stouter.

Tried to make them NOT look like polymer clay. I don't know if it worked.

Will probably turn a couple into earrings. They're a bit heavy though.

A love-ly pendant

Shining, shimmering splendid. :p

A slab of polymer clay with rainbows and hearts. Reversible.

I'll probably turn this into a necklace. Or a keychain. I have no idea.
